Manmohan Singh was an Indian economist, academician, and politician who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. He was the first Sikh Prime Minister of India and is widely known for introducing major economic reforms in 1991 as Finance Minister.
He was born on 26 September 1932 in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan). After the Partition of India in 1947, his family moved to India. He studied economics at Panjab University, University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford.
Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several important positions, including Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Finance Minister of India. His economic liberalization policies helped modernize India’s economy and increased global investment in the country.
He served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms (2004–2014). During his tenure, India experienced strong economic growth and signed the historic India–US nuclear deal.
